Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) is pleased to announce a significant milestone in its collaboration with the Department of Atomic Energy Malaysia (Atom Malaysia), a distinguished government department under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI).
To mark this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held to formalise their partnership and strengthen their joint efforts to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in the country.
The MoU was signed by UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib and Atom Malaysia Director General Noraishah Pungut.
The signing was witnessed by MOSTI Secretary General Datuk Ts. Dr Haji Aminuddin Hassim.
Over the past few years, UTP and Atom Malaysia have worked tirelessly together to inspire and engage young minds in the fields of STEM through their joint initiative, ESTREAM WAVES.
Notably, the successful implementation of events like the Maths Genius competition showcased the immense creativity of school children, encouraging them to design board games centred around Mathematics and Science. This competition has earned the status of a "Signature Event" for Atom Malaysia and MOSTI.
Building upon their successful past collaborations, the partnership between UTP and Atom Malaysia will focus on several key areas. The primary objectives of this collaboration are to enhance the academic scope, foster students' development, and promote cutting-edge research in STEM fields.
To achieve these goals, the institutions will jointly undertake a comprehensive Joint Outreach in STEM Education, encompassing various initiatives.
The key areas of cooperation under the MoU include facilitation of academic acceptance, promotion of collaborative research, promotion of student and staff exchange, exchange of knowledge and information and mutual exchange of technical personnel.
The partnership between UTP and Atom Malaysia holds great promise for the advancement of STEM education and research in Malaysia. By leveraging their respective strengths, these institutions are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of scientific innovators, while contributing to the country's progress in the field of atomic energy.
On the day of the signing, there was also a UTP- Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) seminar on "Paving the Way for Green Hydrogen in Advancing Circular Economy: Stakeholder Management for Capacity Building and Strategic Communication for Advocacy”. The three-day seminar was organised by UTP Institute of Self-Sustainable Building and funded by APEC.
