UTP's Dr Chong Su Li Honoured as Finalist in Prestigious UK Alumni Awards
Dr Chong Su Li, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Management and Humanities at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), has been honoured as a finalist in the British Council's prestigious UK Alumni Awards 2024.
The British Council's UK Alumni Awards celebrate the achievements of individuals who have studied in the United Kingdom and have made remarkable contributions to their communities and professions upon returning to their home countries.
Chong's selection as a finalist acknowledges her significant contributions to the field of education and her impactful work in literacy research and outreach efforts.
Leading UTP's University Social Responsibility (Education Pillar), she spearheads initiatives aimed at enhancing literacy and STEM education among school children.
Her passion in literacy research and outreach work led her to create innovative and engaging online literacy and STEM pedagogical videos and competitions, providing students with valuable learning opportunities while isolated at home during the pandemic.
Having spent four years at the Faculty of Education, Cambridge University, Chong expanded her perspective on literacy education. Upon returning to Malaysia, she delved into understanding the challenges Malaysians face in becoming literate in a multilingual, multicultural context.
Her dedication to research culminated in the publication of the award-winning edited book by Routledge, representing the voices of Asia on literacy education—a first of its kind in the region.
“I am truly honoured to be named a finalist in the UK Alumni Awards. This award is a testament to the collective efforts of many individuals who share my passion for education. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to shaping a brighter future for children and communities through innovative approaches to literacy and STEM education,” Chong said.
