 Assalamualaikum w.r.t.

Dear Prof/Ir/AP/Dr/Ladies & Gentleman,

Late 2017, UTP was invited by Manjung City Council (MCC) to resolve their rampant fly's problem originating from poultry business. The best duo expertise in Waste to Energy Conversion, Dr. Aqsha, and Dr. Rashid submitted their ideas seperately to treat chicken manure via "waste-to-wealth" approach. This project has not only crated collaboration between UTP and MCC but also partnership with Dindings Poultry Development Centre Sdn Bhd (DPDC). UTP conducted a feasibility study on campus to determine the potential biogas and biofertilizer generation, cost analysis and efficiency of the process on fly's abatement measure. The project is named as "Operasi Lalat" or "Flies Operation" to signify the main problem to be solved in Manjung District. They aim to build a prototype or showcase unit to convert the stored energy in manure into biogas and biofertilizer whilst alleviating the fly's issue. Through DVCRI initiative, MTC Engineering Sdn Bhd were introduced to the team to assist in term of scalling-up the project for pilot testing at DPDC chicken farm in Segari. Through this collaboration in the "Operasi Lalat" Project, the team secured RM50,000 URIF fund to kickstart the project and while appying for The Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) and High Impact Programme 2 (HIP2) fund with MTCE.

"Operasi Lalat" project not only has open up networking and partnership with gonverment stakeholders in Perak but also with industry that looking for renewable energy out of waste or biomass. The duo didn't stop at chicekn manure only, now through community projects they are producing biogas and organic fertilizer from elephant manure at Kuala Gandah and another one is biogas production from cow manure (Sungai Siput, Perak) and food waste in collaboration with Palawan State University, Philippines. From waste to wealth, this what we called as circular economy hat aims to redefine growth, focusing on positive society-wide benefits.
