PETRONAS – UTP on the 24th Dec 2020 had conducted IMA 2.0, a continuation from IMA 1.0 (14th Nov 2019). The main objective of IMA is to serve as a platform for industry and academia to discover sustainable solutions to decommissioning challenges in the form of technology and innovation. The event was graced by Welcoming Remarks by UTP DVCRI, Prof Ir Dr M Shahir Liew, followed by Opening Speech by En Zamri B Jaidi, Head of Construction, HUC and Decommissioning (CHCD).

IMA has conducted series of 4 webinars since July until November 2020. It is jointly organised by PETRONAS and UTP, in collaboration with MOGSC where speakers from both industry and academia have participated. The industry presenters have shared their pain points and experiences in decommissioning while the academia presenters have shared potential technologies that can apply to decommissioning.

IMA 2.0 have 2 sessions: panel sessions under theme of Onshore Decommissioning – Oil & Gas vs Energy Industry and Decommissioning & Abandonment Sustainable Solution. Followed with 3 technical papers presented by PetroVietnam University, UTM, UM and UTP presenters. The webinar has received 215 participants from universities (local and abroad – ASEAN and from UK) and PETRONAS. IMA 2021 resolution, it is impertinent to foster closer collaboration between academia and industry, with the aspiration to find more technological and financially efficient solutions for decommissioning and abandonment. Hence, for IMA 3.0 hopefully to receive more participation from industry and academia locally and internationally.
