​DR CHONG SU LI WINNING THE BRENDA EASTWOOD AWARD 2021

Dr Chong Su Li of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has been awarded the prestigious Brenda Eastwood Award 2021 by the United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA) in recognition of her work in multilingual, multiethnic and multicultural communities on 7 July 2021. In her nomination piece, Dr Chong shared with the judges her work both in literacy research and literacy outreach that contribute to UTP's aim of sustaining quality education in its community. Her research interest focuses on the intersections of Literacy and Language Education within multilingual societies and in marginalised communities.

Dr Chong Su Li delivered the instructions for reading together in 2020 and producing a literature review in 2021 in a straightforward and professional manner, with suitable humour. Children and families were encouraged to have a good time and were reminded that "families who read together, stay together." The panellists were impressed by the cross-cultural work that demonstrated an impact on practice and gave families a voice and a choice.
