START FOCUS TODAY

Try to recall the day you are putting your focus on.

What will you say to yourself?

“I can do this, yes I can!” or you will keep on asking, “Why it is so hard to do this?”

And which one give you the better result?

There is an interesting study in Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) by Tedeschi in 2004 found one’s ability to reflect on traumatic experience by accepting the aftermath reality will have ability to find sophisticated ways of grappling with life events. On the extreme condition instilling growth give a sound impact so does in distress and confusion situation. Plus, an advice by a positive psychologist named Tal Ben Shahar through his series of classes in Harvard University, is that our reality is shaped by the language we use everyday. “Words create Worlds”, he added.

Here, I suggest ten (10) ways to start focus today:

  1. Study in a quiet place that is free from distractions and interruptions
  2. Make a study schedule that shows what tasks you need to accomplish and when you plan to accomplish each
  3. Try to study of the time of day you work best. You know what works best for you
  4. Make sure you are not tired and/or hungry/ too full when you study
  5. Don’t try to do two tasks at the same time. You wont be able to concentrate on either one very well. Our brain design not design for multitask
  6. Break large tasks into series of smaller task that you can complete at a time
  7. Relax. Its hard to concentrate when you are tense
  8. Clear your mind from worrisome thoughts
  9. Develop an interest in what you are studying. Try to relate what you are studying to you own life to make it as meaningful as possible
  10. Take breaks whenever you feel fatigued. There is no set formula for when to take brakes

On top of all 10 advices, always start asking a right question to your self, setting the right mood and emotion. Peter Drucker once said:

"The most serious mistakes are not being made as a result of wrong answers. The truly dangerous thing is asking the wrong question”.
