UTP has lent a helping hand to 505 underprivileged students around Perak by providing them essential school supplies under the UTP Menggapai Impian and Yayasan UTP School Kits Giving programme.
The school supplies were handed over to the Perak State Education Department (JPN Perak) through Perak Tengah District Education Officer, Tuan Haji Mohd Fathilah Mohd Noor recently.
The UTP Menggapai Impian and Yayasan UTP School Kits Giving is part of the university’s social responsibility initiatives to ease the financial burden of low-income families from the surrounding areas, especially during the pandemic, by equipping their children with school kits. This is to motivate their children to learn and give them a chance for a better future.
It is also a means for the university’s and PETRONAS’ staff to give back to those in need and foster the spirit of sharing.
Under this programme, UTP and PETRONAS staff volunteer to sponsor a minimum of RM200 for each student. The student will receive school necessities in the form of bags, stationery and shopping voucher for the new school term.
This year, more than RM100,000 worth of donations were received from UTP and PETRONAS staff.
Since its launch in 2007, more than 2700 students from orphanages, welfare homes, shelters and schools as well as children of UTP janitors and security personnel have benefitted from the programme.
