UTP’s ESTCON Gathered Prominent Speakers to Address Issues on Sustainable Future

The 6th World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress was officially opened on 13 July 2021 by the Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.
 
For the first time since its inauguration in 2010, the latest edition of ESTCON2020 convened virtually for three days. It gathered more than 1,000 experts from academic fraternity, industry as well as government and non-government organisations from around 30 countries.
 
With the theme “Science, Technology and Humanities: Reinventing the Future” the congress encompassed a wide range of fields in engineering, technology innovation and humanities to address issues and trends as well as seek innovative solutions and methods in forging a sustainable future for the next generation.

The congress featured 5 prominent and engaging keynote speakers, 18 plenary speakers and 3 forums with 13 panellists who shared their thoughts and insights on reinventing the future, how we can rise to the challenge and embrace the new normal and new way of working amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the first day of the congress, two keynote speakers delivered their addresses. First was Chairman of Axilor Ventures and Co-Founder of Infosys India, Senapathy Gopalakrishnan who talked about Sustainable Technology. The second and final speaker for the day was the Senior Fellow of Academy of Sciences Malaysia Academician Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dr Zakri Abdul Hamid who delivered his keynote on Society 5.0.

The second day of the congress continued with address by two more prominent keynote speakers. The first was Academy of Sciences Malaysia Vice President and Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation Chairman, Prof Dato' Ir Dr A Bakar Jaafar. He delivered a keynote titled “Future Engineering for the Environment in the Tropics”. President of Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation India, Dr William Selvamurthy was the final keynote speaker with the topic ‘Innovation Culture’.

The last day of the congress will see Professor John Holbrey, Chair of Green Chemistry in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland sharing his views on the topic of ‘Sustainability Chemistry for Living’.
