Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia would like to congratulate three Electrical and Electronics Engineering students and one Computer Engineering student for obtaining First Runner Up and Most Promising Award in the Petrosains RBTX Challenge 2021 -Innovation Varsity Category. In this competition, the students have tried to solve real-life problems using techniques like AI and Machine Learning.
The First Runner Up team, comprised of Jocelyn Teh Shuang Ru and Ngai Tze Xing, built a model to detect spine from X-Ray pictures and calculate the spinal deformity under the supervision of AP. Dr. Syed Saad Azhar Ali. This is useful to increase general public's awareness on scoliosis problem as general practitioners could use it.
On the other hand, the Most Promising Award team, made up of Ch'ng Jing Ying and Ong Wei Ling, built a model that learns to detect the rooftop of a building from satellite photos and determine the potential of buildings to install solar panel on rooftop under the dynamic supervision of AP. Dr. Naufal B M Saad, Chair of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Once again our students have proved that they never settle for less than the BEST.
