Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has further cemented its position as Malaysia’s number one university according to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2022. UTP has climbed 15 places to 119th, the only university in Malaysia to record an improvement in this year’s rankings.
According to UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, this is the university’s highest placing in the THE Young University Rankings.
“Such an accomplishment is especially noteworthy to UTP as the university just celebrated its 25 years of establishment on 10 January this year.
“In an increasingly competitive field of young universities, we have made excellent strides and improved consistently in this global ranking. We are proud of this achievement as this is a testament and recognition of the hard work and concerted efforts of UTP community as well as the unwavering support from PETRONAS, our partners and our collaborators,” he said.
In this ranking, UTP also receives the highest score in the nation for two indicators, namely research, which looks at a university’s research productivity, income and reputation for research excellence among its peers, and international outlook – the university’s ability to attract undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty from all over the world.
“The abovementioned scores are indications that our high-impact research initiatives, teaching and learning excellence as well as attracting international talent have collectively resulted in maintaining our strong rank globally.
“We will continue to strive for excellence in maintaining strategic partnerships, pioneering research and creating innovative solutions, supporting PETRONAS’ energy transition initiatives to move towards Net Zero Carbon Emission (NZCE), providing a world class learning and teaching environment as well as educating the next generation of thinkers, innovators, leaders and lifelong learners in our quest to steer UTP towards sustainable global prominence,” he said.
