In December last year, UTP Eco Project announced the launch of our war against single use plastics on campus in 2019. We would like to introduce the SKIP THE STRAW initiative, a 2 month pilot programme we will be launching on Feb 13th 2019 at all UTP cafeterias in support of our initiative.
SKIP THE STRAW
This initiative will see all UTP eateries refusing straws to all its patrons for the duration of the pilot, in tandem with MESTECC's 2019 action plan on the 'No straw by default' practice, where straws are dispensed ONLY by special request by patrons. All UTP cafeteria operators have pledged support for the SKIP THE STRAW pilot programme.
WE CANNOT MAKE IMPACTFUL CHANGE ON CAMPUS WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT
We seek the support of the whole campus community to make our SKIP THE STRAW initiative a success, and eventually a CULTURE ON CAMPUS. We understand that change can be uncomfortable, and as such, team UTP ECO PROJECT will take all necessary measures to hear your voices on our war against single use plastics on campus. Should you want to provide views on our campaign during the pilot duration, feedback forms will be made available at all cafeterias for you to do so. You may also write to utpecoproject@utp.edu.my with suggestions.
UTP ECO PROJECT's SKIP THE STRAW initiative is supported by Institute for Self-Sustainable Building, in collaboration with the Centre for Social Transformation for Sustainable Lifestyles, and key partners Centre for Student Services, RV, HSE, PMMD, SRC UTP and the National Foundation for Environmental Education Eco-Campus programme, WWF Malaysia. We look forward to working with all of you towards making UTP a more sustainable campus.
