Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) celebrated the holy month of Ramadan by giving back to the community through hosting Iftar and donating to the needy.
The university handed over cash donation, contributed by UTP staff, to 60 underprivileged and 140 orphans from various locations surrounding UTP.
The underprivileged were from Taman Maju, Bandar Universiti, Seri Iskandar, Tronoh, Kg Bali, Kg Ayer Denak as well as UTP security staff and general workers. Each received RM250 of cash donations.
Meanwhile, the orphans, who each received RM50, came from Yayasan Amanah An Nur Maisarah Chemor, Rumah Anak Yatim Umie Abie Ipoh, Pertubuhan Rumah Amal Haruman Kasih Ayer Tawar and Persatuan Kebajikan Anak Yatim dan Miskin Al-Munirah Parit.
1700 guests attended the Iftar, including UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, UTP Executive Management Committee members, representatives from Perak government departments, local authorities, media as well as UTP staff and students.
Prior to the Iftar, various activities were organised by UTP students for the orphanages. The activity is part of the KAS1041 Event Management subject, which is a requirement for undergraduate students. The course gives students the opportunity to collaborate in managing and organsing large-scale events in UTP. It is designed to complement students with the skills and knowledge to make decisions and planning before, during and after of any events.
