Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS’ Tronoh Theatre Shop (TTS) team, comprising eight members from the university’s Arts and Culture Cluster, recently completed a five-day theatre competition and workshop programme, Kenduri Teater Asean, organised by Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Jakarta Indonesia.
Competing against groups from UI, Kelab Badan Kesenian dan Kebudayaan (DANSENI) from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Seri Iskandar, Perak, and Anak Seni Tenaga Nasional (ASTENA) from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), TTS presented the play "Cinta Sang Arnab," written by their advisor, Professor Dr Shamsul Rahman Mohd Kutty, also known as Prof Shark.
The primary goals of participating in the competition were to immerse students in a different cultural environment, establish partnerships with local and international arts organisations/institutions, and foster diverse collaborations with local communities.
TTS achieved notable success in the competition, securing first place in Best Technical Lighting, first place in Best Actor, and second place in Best Costume, Best Director, and Best Overall group. Additionally, Prof Shark was honoured with the Tokoh Teater award.
The competition not only provided TTS with an exciting journey but also enabled them to form invaluable connections with other participants.
TTS and UTP's Centre of Student Development express their sincere gratitude to UI for the warm hospitality and support, facilitating this enriching global experience for UTP students.
The success of the programme reflects the commitment of both universities to delivering quality education and fostering global perspectives.
