UTP and the Australian University of Kuwait AU have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering academic and research excellence.
The MoU was signed by UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ir Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib and AU President Professor Isam Zabalawi.
The MoU encompasses several key areas that will propel UTP and AU towards achieving their academic and research goals:
• UTP and AU will engage in the exchange of academic and administrative knowledge, enriching their programmes and operations, while also identifying specific areas for benchmarking to establish performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.
• The institutions will collaborate on scientific research in areas of mutual interest, fostering innovation and contributing to the global knowledge base.
• Faculty exchange programmes during summer semesters and short-term visits will facilitate joint research, teaching, and learning experiences.
• UTP and AU will explore opportunities to co-organise conferences, seminars, and workshops to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration within the academic community.
• Shared access to library databases, laboratory facilities and equipment, published research papers, and academic and administrative materials, enriching the academic and research resources of both universities.
• UTP is establishing an articulation pathway for qualified AU graduates to pursue postgraduate studies at UTP.
• Opportunities for collaboration in Petroleum Engineering, including exploring the development of a joint degree programmes.
Building on UTP's existing relationship with Kuwait, exemplified by last year's agreement with the Malaysian Kuwaiti Investment Co. Sdn Bhd (MKIC) to advance research and development in the palm oil industry, this MoU signifies a significant step forward.
Currently home to two Kuwaiti students, UTP hopes that this MoU will attract more students from Kuwait in the future.
