Run for Greener Future

​1850 runners turned up for this year's Go Nature Campaign (GNC) 2.0 run held at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) campus in Seri Iskandar.

UTP students and staff, the local community and runners all over Malaysia participated in the event to test their limits in the 21km and 8km distance. 

 

The run was organised by UTP GNC 2.0, a sequel to GNC 1.0 held September last year.

 

Themed 'Loving Nature', the programme was held to promote healthy lifestyle and raise awareness on the importance of conserving the nature for a greener future.

Deputy Minister Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change YB Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis flagged off the 21km category while the 8km category was flagged off by UTP Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affairs and Alumni Associate Professor Dr Nor Hisham Hamid and UTP Director of Centre for Student Development Associate Professor Dr Nurlidia Mansor.

Afterwards, YB Isnaraissah also rode bicycles and planted trees at UTP together with Dr Nor Hisham, Dr Nurlidia, UTP Dean Faculty of Engineering Associate Professor Dr Fakhruldin Mohd Hashim, GNC 2.0 Advisor Dr Noridah Osman and its committee members.

 

GNC 2.0 Executive Project Director, Moviin Damodaran hoped that participants would enjoy the run and at the same time learn to appreciate the nature, especially in UTP and its surrounding area.

"We also hoped that this competition would promote environmental awareness through practical conservation efforts such as riding bicycles and planting trees.

 

"Moving forward, we would like to encourage everyone to support for greener future.  In this regard, we need to look for new approaches for living, new ideas on how we utilise earth's natural bounty and new initiatives to forge a better and more sustainable future," he said.
