Farehana Hanapiah is the Senior Vice President, Group Human Resource Management, PETRONAS since 1 January 2020. She graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration majoring in Accountancy from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. In 2015, Farehana attended the Advanced Management Program in Harvard Business School.
With over 31 years work experience in PETRONAS, Farehana has held multiple managerial and leadership roles in internal audit, corporate strategy, planning and risk, commercial and joint venture management, and human resource management. In recent years, Farehana has held roles of General Manager of Corporate Planning, Head of Commercial and Joint Venture Development for PETRONAS’ megaproject i.e. Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID), and in 2015, she joined human resources management as the Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Leadership Centre.
Farehana’s key contributions include leading and pioneering the streamlining of enterprise risk management, strategic portfolio management, economic evaluation methods for business and projects, and other management decision making tools and frameworks for groupwide application.
Throughout her period with human resource, she led the revamp of learning and development approach with the introduction of digital learning and leadership in-role development programs. Prior to her appointment as Senior Vice President, she was the Head of Human Capital Expertise, Group Human Resources Management and was responsible in redefining the human capital management operating model to address new business demands derived from PETRONAS’ 3-Pronged Growth Strategy.
Today, as PETRONAS reshapes its business portfolio, she leads a corporate human resources initiative called ‘emb.arc’ which is a catalyst to retool PETRONAS’ human capital equation, by redefining its end-to-end talent management ecosystem to deliver its future talent mix of an empowered, agile, and enabled workforce.
Farehana is currently board member of PETRONAS Chemicals Group Bhd., Institute of Technology PETRONAS Sdn. Bhd., PETRONAS Technical Training Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS Management Training Sdn. Bhd., PETRONAS Lubricants International Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS Digital Sdn. Bhd., Chairman of the Dana Asy-Syakirin Board of Trustees.
She is also a member of the Executive Steering Committee of International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) Energy Workforce of Future Taskforce Group, a member of the Global HR Council of The Conference Board (TCB), and a commissioner for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) Business Commission to Tackle Inequality (BCTI).
