1. World Engineering, Science & Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2014
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) with the support from Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of
Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM), KPerak Implementation &
Coordination Corporation (KPerak) and Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (YUTP) gathered more
than 1,000 experts from over 40 countries from 3 to 5 June 2014 for a gathering of presentations, lectures,
panel discussions and debates on research and innovation in the 3rd World Engineering, Science and
Technology Congress (ESTCON2014) held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to determine a more
sustainable future.
The main sponsors of the congress were PETRONAS and Exxon Mobil Exploration and Production Malaysia
Inc as Diamond sponsors, while Dialog Group Berhad as the Gold sponsor and other supporting sponsor
such as KLK, Talisman, THHeavy Engineering, Murphy, Deleum and Halliburton.
2. Carbon Offset Project 2014
In conjunction with ESTCON2014, UTP has also worked on a special Carbon Offset Project by planting 121
trees at the ESTCON Park, UTP campus. To reduce carbon footprint in organising ESTCON2014, UTP has
focused on reducing and reworking strategies to minimise carbon dioxide in areas such as air travel, paper
usage and electricity consumption. The trees were sponsored by the university’s staff and student with
total contribution of RM30,250.
3. YUTP Charity Golf 2014
Yayasan UTP Charity Golf 2014 was organised on 24th May 2014 at Bangi Golf resort and this tournament
has attracted 50 golfers from the oil and gas industry. This fund raising efforts is to increase the Yayasan
UTP Student Support Fund (YUTP Bursary).
Industry players such as Exxon Mobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc., Dialog Group Berhad,
Deleum Berhad, Halliburton, Baker Hughes and Bredero Shaw (M) Sdn Bhd were among the sponsors of
the event. The contributions to the YUTP Bursary will enable it to award financial assistance to deserving
students of the university.
All of the above ESTCON 2014 related events has collected a total contribution of RM581, 750.00 for
Yayasan UTP.
Student Development Activities
1. UTP Convo Fair 2014
UTP and its Student’s Representative Council also organised a Convofest at its campus in Bandar Seri
Iskandar from 16 October to 19 October 2014, featuring various interesting activities that include
cultural and art performances, futsal, water games, exhibitions and a talk by Ustaz Kazim Elias. Yayasan
UTP raised RM34,000 throughout this event.
2. UTP Convo Ride 2014
On 11 October 2014, UTP organised its Convoride 2014, a cycling event and also CSR programme. More
than 200 bicycles were donated to underprivileged school children from 17 selected schools and one
orphanage in Perak, and students at Kg. Aji, Bota Perak during Convoride 2014.
This year saw the largest number of bicycles donated since Convoride was first organised in 2012. In
2012, 20 bicycles were donated while 25 bicycles were donated last year. The bicycles were sponsored
by UTP and PETRONAS staff at RM300 each.
For this CSR programme, UTP received sponsorships and donations of more than RM70,331 and 40 per
cent of the donations will be channelled to Yayasan UTP bursary fund to provide financial aid for UTP
students.
As a cycling event, Convoride 2014 covered a distance of 100km involving areas of Seri Iskandar, Bota,
Tanjung Belanja, Manong and Parit. This year’s Convoride attracted more than 500 cyclists from all over
Malaysia such as Penang, Kedah, Selangor and including cyclists from as far as Terengganu and Kelantan.
3. Alumni Convo Dinner 2014
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in collaboration with Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (YUTP)
organised the 14th Convocation Dinner at UTP Main Hall, Tronoh on 18th Oct 2014 at 8.00 pm. The dinner
was held a night before the graduation day to commemorate the success of UTP students who will be
graduating in 2014.
This memorable event is jointly organized with UTP Alumni Association, featuring performances by UTP
talented students. The dinner was graced by UTP Vice Chancellor, YABhg Datuk Rahim along with Tun
Mahathir as the UTP Chancellor, in the presence of PETRONAS Chairman, PETRONAS President, UTP Board
Members, PETRONAS Executive Vice President and their spouses together with other invited guests.
In addition, this event is also an engagement platform for the graduating students to establish networking
with their potential employers. Yayasan UTP raised RM43,550 throughout this event.
