1. World Engineering, Science & Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2020
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) with the support from Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE),
Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), Sarawak
Convention Bureau (SCB), Government Linked Universities (GLU) and Yayasan Universiti Teknologi
PETRONAS (YUTP) will be organising the sixth World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress
(ESTCON 2020) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Sarawak on 13-15 July 2021. This biennial congress
was initially planned to be conducted on 14-16 July 2020 however it had to be postponed to 2021 due to
the COVID-19 pandemic.
Themed "Science, Technology & Humanities: Reinventing the Future", ESTCON2020 comprises of 9
simultaneously-held international Conferences, covers a wide range of fields in innovation, engineering
and technology as well as in humanities addressing the latest trends and challenges facing the world in
embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution. ESTCON2020 will feature 5 Keynote addresses by world's
prominent Speakers, more than 50 Plenary and Forum sessions and more than 1,000 paper presentations
across the 9 Conferences that will accelerate intellectual and insightful discussions, debates and new
findings.
The previous five Congresses held on 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 has successfully gathered more
than thousands participants from all over the world.
The fundraising effort for this Congress started in early 2019 and has received RM225,000 worth of
sponsorship in that year, thus far contributed by various corporation and industries such as Petroliam
Nasional Berhad, Makhostia Sdn Bhd and Creative Minds among others
2. Tapestry of Colours Charity Dinner (TOCCD) 2020
In YUTP's effort to provide a platform to raise funds, the Tapestry of Colours fundraising concert was
organised as a fundraising dinner. The Tapestry of Colours Charity Dinner (TOCCD) 2020 was held on 10
January 2020 at the Diamond Ballroom, EQ Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The dinner, held with the support from PETRONAS and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), aimed to
raise funds for the granting of scholarships to deserving UTP students.
Contributions for the charity dinner came from corporate and individual sponsors such as Dialog Group
Berhad, Seadrill, TechnipFMC, Conocophillips, Synerlitz Sdn Bhd, YB Yeo Bee Yin (UTP Alumni), under the
'Peruntukan Khas Menteri' – Special Minister's Allocation, KLCC Property Holdings Berhad, Transwater API
Sdn Bhd, QR Apparel Sdn Bhd, Uzma Berhad and Code of Origin Sdn Bhd.
Guests were also entertained with performances from UTP talented engineering, science and technology
students from UTP Performing Arts Group, Interbeatz Dance Crew, Petra, Virtuoso, Gajjdi Jawani, Sanggar
Kirana and UTP String Ensemble.
The fundraising efforts were initiated in 2019 and as of 31st Dec 2019, a sum of RM120,900 was
successfully collected for the event.
Student Development Activities
1. Menggapai Impian & YUTP School Kits Giving Campaign 2019
The CSR project was organised by Yayasan UTP in collaboration with UTP Stakeholder Management
Department in conjunction with UTP 19th Convocation ceremony. The initiative is part of University
Social Responsibility (USR) programme.
YUTP received sponsorships and donations of more than RM134, 605 and the school kits which contain of
school bags, geometry sets, tumblers and shopping vouchers were distributed to 673 underprivileged
children of different race and background. The identified recipients are from schools in UTP surrounding
community such as Batu Gajah, Ipoh, Sungai Siput and Perak Tengah area. Other recipients include the
children of UTP janitors and security personnel.
2. UTP Convo Ride 2019
On 10th November 2019, UTP Convo Ride 2019 was organized in which more than 300 riders from all
around peninsular Malaysia participated in the event together with UTP staff and students and the local
community. This annual cycling competition was organised by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in
conjunction with the university's 19th convocation ceremony. It was flagged off by UTP 19th Convocation
Chairman, Associate Professor Dr Azrai Hj Abdullah.
The event received more than RM48,001 worth of sponsorship contributed by various corporation and
industries such Uzma Berhad, Concept Associates (KL) Sdn Bhd, Zspeed Solution Sdn Bhd, Institut Jantung
Negara, 2Terminal Technology & Solution Sdn Bhd, HK Solutions (M) Sdn Bhd, Fortesys Distribution Sdn
Bhd, Satcom Sales & Services Sdn Bhd and Petronas Dagangan Berhad among others.
3. UTP Convo Fest 2019
UTP and its Students’ Representative Council also organized Convo Fest at its campus in Bandar Seri
Iskandar from 15 to 17 November 2019, featuring various interesting activities that include cultural and
art performances, futsal, gift & products selling booths, exhibitions and concert by Malaysian celebrities.
Yayasan UTP raised cash sponsorship worth of RM30,000 throughout this event via Dixson FA Engineering
Sdn Bhd, Satcom Sales And Services Sdn Bhd and in-kind sponsor by PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd.
In addition to that, the organisor has also organized CSR event of UTP Kledang Trail Run 2019 on 5th
October 2019 at Foyer Chancellor Complex and Bukit Kledang, Ipoh. The inaugural running event was
participated by 200 runners and managed to secure cash sponsorship of RM3,000 from individual
sponsor as well as in-kind sponsors from KSKKU, Debut and Pro-Apparel.
4. Convo Award Night 2019
Convo Award Night 2019, which was held on 16 November 2019 at Multipurpose Hall @ CETaL is to
commemorate the success of UTP students who graduated in 2019. During the dinner, the Final Year
Project Awards, Vice Chancellor Awards as well as Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) Award were
presented to all winners. This event also offered a good opportunity for UTP graduates to establish
networking with their potential employers while having a joyful evening and social gathering with the key
players in the industry.
This memorable event has also featured performances by UTP talented students. The dinner was graced
by PETRONAS Chairman in the presence of UTP Vice Chancellor, UTP Board Members, PETRONAS
Executive Vice President and their spouses together with other invited guests.
Yayasan UTP raised RM 4,000 throughout this event with Beaux Square, Warisan Asli Outfitters Sdn Bhd
Pahlawan Dinamik Sdn Bhd, Hydrant Water Services Sdn Bhd and Sofal Synergy Sdn Bhd as the sponsors
to the event. In addition to that, the event also received in-kind contribution from Petronas Dagangan
Berhad, Petronas Lubricant (M) Marketing and UniFoto Graduate worth of RM3,940.00 in total.
Research & Innovation
1. Joint Industry Projec with Corporations
UTP has received support from corporations to collaborate in UTP Joint Industry Projects such as from
Transwater Tenaga Sdn Bhd for Zeolite Reforming Naphta for Production of Automative Gasoline and
Aromatics. The total contribution is RM99,425 in 2019 with Associate Professor Dr Marappa Gounder
Ramasamy as the Principle Investigator.
In addition to that, Murphy Sarawak Oil Co., Ltd in 2019 has contributed RM30,000 worth of UTP research
grant, entitled Interfacial Phenomenon Of Hydrate Agglomeration Suppression By Non-Ionic Surfactants.
The project is headed by Dr. Bhajan Lal, a senior lecturer in UTP assisted by Prof Dr Azmi B Mohd Shariff,
Director of Institute of Contaminant Management in the same institution.
Thirdly, Inter Metals Precision Sdn Bhd has also joined the wagon by contributing a grant amount of
RM10,000 to support a UTP research project by Dr Khurram Altaf, entitled Development and Analysis of
Sacrificial Patterns and Injection Moulds for Foundry Application Using 3D Printing Technologies.
