1. World Engineering, Science & Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2020
This event was co-organised
by the Alliance of Government-Linked Universities, supported by the Higher Education
Ministry, the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, the Academy of Sciences
Malaysia (ASM), and was held in collaboration with Petronas, Yayasan UTP and Malaysia
Board of Technologists. The congress was held from 13th to 15th July 2022 on a virtual
platform with more than 1,000 experts of diverse fields of research, innovation and
commercialisation from around 30 countries.
The sixth edition of the congress with the theme “Science, Technology and Humanities:
Reinventing the Future”, encompasses a wide range of fields in engineering and technology
innovation as well as in humanities. A UTP flagship event, ESTCON2020 was the largest
congress in the world with nine international conferences held concurrently.
Another feature of ESTCON2020 was the virtual exhibition which will run concurrently with
the conferences, where industry players from corporations and various industries would
showcase their products, services and latest innovations.
The previous five Congresses held on 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 had successfully
gathered more than thousands of participants from all over the world.
The fundraising effort for this Congress had received RM46,512 worth of sponsorship in
2021, thus far contributed by various corporation and industries such as Dialog Group
Berhad, Schlumberger WTA Sdn Bhd and NeuDimension, among others.
2. Joint Industry Project with Corporations
UTP had received support from corporations to collaborate in UTP Joint Industry Projects such as from Transwater Tenaga Sdn Bhd for Zeolite Reforming Naphtha for Production of Automotive Gasoline and Aromatics. The total contribution is RM34,725 in 2021 with Associate Professor Dr Marappa Gounder Ramasamy as the Principal Investigator.
Student Development Activities
1. Menggapai Impian & YUTP School Kits Giving Campaign 2020
The CSR project was organised by Yayasan UTP in collaboration with UTP Stakeholder
Management Department as part of University Social Responsibility (USR) programme. The
fundraising campaign was held from December 2020 until January 2021 to alleviate the
families' financial burden when it comes to back-to-school costs especially those parents
that lost their income during Covid19 pandemic. For the year 2021, YUTP has received a
sum of RM7,320 to be distributed to the rightful recipients.
In total, YUTP received sponsorships and donations of more than RM101,000 and the
school kits consisted of a school bag, a stationery set and a gift voucher worth RM150 for
the purchase of additional school supplies were delivered by YUTP and UTP Stakeholder
Management to Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah on 18 January 2021 to be distributed to
deserving students from 505 families. The identified recipients are from schools in UTP
surrounding community such as Batu Gajah, Ipoh, Sungai Siput and Perak Tengah area.
Other recipients include the children of UTP janitors and security personnel.
2. UTP Capstone & Best Academic Awards 2020 & 2021
In conjunction with UTP Convocation ceremony, several side-events were held in UTP to
commemorate this university event such as Capstone & Special Award 2020 and 2021
which were organised on 11th December 2021 via Microsoft Teams platform, to recognise
students and student groups who presented the best overall in capstone projects and
performed excellently in their special projects. Each category received certificate and cash
prizes sponsored by corporations of the associated industry.
For the year 2021, YUTP received sponsorship for this event amounting to RM38,300 from
esteemed sponsors such as Uzma Berhad, Infinecs Systems Sdn Bhd, Radius Exhibits &
Interiors Sdn Bhd and many others.
