Assoc. Prof. Hamidah Binti Haji A. Rahman is a distinguished figure in the field of Library and Information Science, with decades of experience in cataloguing, classification, and knowledge management. She holds a Master of Information and Library Studies (M.I.L.S.) from the University of Michigan, USA, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science from UiTM, along with a Professional Certificate in Knowledge Management. Beginning her career as a cataloger and indexer in both Malaysian and American institutions, she went on to serve Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) for over three decades. At UiTM, sheincluding Senior Lecturer and later Associate Professor at the Faculty of Information Management until her retirement in 2018.
Her teaching expertise spans cataloguing and classification, Resource Description and Access (RDA), indexing and abstracting, and thesaurus and taxonomy construction. She has designed and taught various undergraduate and postgraduate courses, influencing generations of librarians and information professionals. Assoc. Prof. Hamidah is also a sought-after speaker, facilitator, and consultant. She has led countless workshops across Malaysia and internationally including in Brunei, covering RDA, MARC 21, LCC, LCSH, DDC, and other major classification and cataloguing standards. Her consultancies include work for Bank Negara Malaysia and various national library initiatives.
She has contributed significantly to national committees on cataloguing and classification standards, such as the National Library of Malaysia’s committees on MARC 21 and personal and corporate name standards. Her work continues to support the evolution of knowledge organization in the digital age.
